Furious Man Utd fans all saying same thing about Andre Onana after performance vs Lyon, 'matter of months' point is made

Manchester United fans voiced their true feelings on Andre Onana after the player’s display against Lyon in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday.

The Red Devils ensured their place in the last eight of the Europa League after Manchester United’s thumping 4-1 win over Real Sociedad at Old Trafford in March.

Lyon, meanwhile, blew Romanian side FCSB out of the water in the last 16 and the Ligue 1 outfit punched their ticket to the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

The 2024-25 Europa League campaign is Ruben Amorim’s last real chance of securing major silverware at Old Trafford before the season is out.

United’s hopes of securing a return to European football in the 2025-26 campaign also hinges on their success in the Europa League in the current season.

The Red Devils lifting the Europa League trophy under United manager Ruben Amorim would secure a place in the Champions League for next season.

United are currently 13th in the Premier League table and the Red Devils have only managed 10 wins in 31 league matches in the 2024-25 season.

Man Utd fans react to Andre Onana‘s performance vs Lyon in the quarter-finals of the Europa League at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais

Manchester United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, ruthlessly slammed Andre Onana for his performance on the night in France.

Lyon midfielder Nemanja Matic ruthlessly criticised Onana ahead of the match and Red Devils supporters admitted that the former United man was right.

Along with the discourse around Nemanja Matic’s comments, other United fans insisted that Onana’s time as No 1 is over and he should be sold in the summer.

“Hoped Onana would prove me wrong. Matic was right,” one fan said.

Someone else added: “Was expecting Onana [would] put up a performance that [would] shut [up] his critics. But he only proved Matic right.”

“I really expected that Matic’s comment would make Onana sit up,” another posted.

A fourth X user wrote: “Both Onana and Matic are playing against us… just that one wears the United jersey and the other doesn’t.”

Somebody else claimed: “Onana is finally done. A matter of months now.”

While a sixth commented: “Andre Onana is finished. Matic has ruined a shell of what was once a man…”

“Onana is finished. Not that he was much to begin with,” a seven Red Devils supporter suggested.

And an eight United fan simply tweeted: “Onana should be sold this summer.”

What happened in Lyon vs Man Utd at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals?

Lyon delivered the first major blow of the Europa League contest after Thiago Almada opened the scoring for the French side at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.

Thiago Almada netted from a direct free-kick after his shot flew straight into the back of the net, with Onana poorly timing his dive and positioning for the set-piece.

Following Andre Onana’s shocking howler in the first half, United were able to climb back into the Europa League contest against Lyon before the half-time whistle.

Lucas Perri punched clear Bruno Fernandes’ injury-time free-kick and the clearance landed in the path of United midfielder Manuel Ugarte on the edge of the box.

Manuel Ugarte unleashed a powerful first-time strike back into the Lyon area and United defender Leny Yoro managed to turn the ball past a helpless Lucas Perri.

Joshua Zirkzee came off the bench and put United 2-1 up against Lyon before the Red Devils blew their lead in injury time, with Onana once again at fault.

Onana failed to parry the ball after a powerful shot from inside the box and Rayan Cherki pounced on the United star’s error and scored for the French side.

The return leg of the Europa League quarter-final tie will be played at Old Trafford on 17th April, with United and Lyon’s match slated for an 8pm UK kick-off time.

The quarter-final winner out of Lyon and United will face either Athletic Bilbao or Rangers in the semi-finals of the Europa League in the 2024-25 campaign.
