Victoria Mboko outlines what she wants to do at the US Open after winning her first WTA title

Victoria Mboko is looking forward to playing at the US Open for the first time.

The teenager will arrive in Flushing Meadows full of confidence after winning her first WTA title on home soil.

Mboko won the Canadian Open after beating four Grand Slam champions during a remarkable title run.

The 18-year-old’s name is one players will not want to see on their side of the draw, and Mboko will aim to continue her fine form at the US Open.

Victoria Mboko just wants to have fun at her very first US Open

Victoria Mboko started the 2025 season ranked outside the top 300.

But following the four titles Mboko won on the ITF circuit during a 22-match win streak, she began to shoot up the rankings.

Just over seven months into the season and Mboko is now ranked inside the top 25. Therefore, she will be seeded at her first appearance in the main draw of the US Open.

Discussing this during an interview with CBC News, Mboko is ready to enjoy her first appearance at a tournament she has always loved.

“The US Open, it’s been one of my favorite tournaments ever since I was really little. It is very special for me.” Mboko said.

“For the first time to play the US Open on the circuit and as a seed, that’s pretty crazy. I don’t really have so many expectations for myself because it’s the first time I’m playing and I just want to have as much fun as possible.”

Victoria Mboko says she wanted to repay her parents for the sacrifices they made for her tennis career

Mboko’s story and rise to tennis success is an inspirational one.

Her parents fled the Democratic Republic of the Congo following political unrest and as a result, Mboko was born in the United States.

When Mboko was just two months old, she and her parents moved to Canada, where she was raised and has lived ever since.

Following Mboko’s victory at the Canadian Open, she was pleased she could make her family happy and she wants to continue making them proud.

“They made so many sacrifices to come to a new country, learning new languages, to rebuild a new life for me and my siblings,” Mboko told CTV National News.

“I think growing up, I was always aware of [my family’s journey]. I think I made more of an effort to try and better myself to make [their sacrifice] worth it.”
