Man City fans not happy at all after hearing wonderkid held talks with other clubs, Bernardo Silva loves him

Over the years, Manchester City have made it a habit to sell some of their best young prospects.

Cole Palmer’s success has earned Pep Guardiola criticism as he is the standout example of City letting gems from their academy leave.

Manchester City have been slated due to Morgan Rogers’ ascent as well.

Nico O’Reilly could be set to join both Palmer and Rogers as yet another gifted youngster who left City to play regular football elsewhere.

As Premier League and Bundesliga clubs are keen on O’Reilly’s signature, the player himself has held talks as playing regular football is his priority.

However, Manchester City fans are upset about the news as they fear the prospect of losing the 20-year-old this summer.

Man City fans upset about Nico O’Reilly holding exit talks

One Manchester City fan admitted O’Reilly’s exit would grind his gears, considering the number of talented youngsters to have departed the Etihad Stadium over the years: “There has to be a point where these academy players are trusted. Gundo [Ilkay Gundoga] isn’t going to be playing 60 games this season and Bernardo [Silva] is probably off in the summer on a free, then what? We buy someone worse like we did with [Romeo] Lavia and [Kalvin] Phillips.”

A second supporter claimed that the Englishman is one of City’s best future prospects and to let him go would be a shambolic decision, stressing: “Nico O’Reilly is one of the brightest talents we’ve got, we just can’t let him go, not on loan or a transfer. He’s got the potential to be a first-team regular right now. If we lose him, we’ll be a proper shambles.”

Due to Pep Guardiola’s demand for a smaller squad, a third Manchester City fan claimed that while selling players is key, O’Reilly should not be one of them, writing: “Would be incredibly irritated if we sold him. Understand we need to offload players but he shouldn’t be one of them, if we can help it. Earned his spot in our first-team rotation and deserves his minutes.”

A fourth City supporter reacted to the news by simply writing: “The wrong players are being linked away.”

A fifth fan claimed that the likes of Bernardo, Kovacic and Gundogan should be sold as he believes they are taking opportunities from young players like the versatile midfielder: “Time to ship out Gundo, B20 [Bernardo] and Kova. In order to protect these young lads…offer them new contracts with better terms.”

Lastly, a sixth fan highlighted how impactful O’Reilly was last season and with how quickly he has adapted to Manchester City’s first-team, he should not be sold whatsoever: “Would be disastrous if we let him go, he’s one of the rare CFA products to come through and immediately adjust to the physical demands of the Premier League. Completely altered the trajectory of our season last year with how much he improved our ability to control physical duels.”

Bernardo is a huge fan of O’Reilly, naming him as a “great example” to all the players at City, which illustrates how impactful he was during the previous campaign.

Man City’s stance on Nico O’Reilly’s future

Ultimately, the supporters will be in uproar if the academy graduate departs this summer.

However, Manchester City could sell O’Reilly and risk the wrath of their fans as they are looking to trim down their squad.

There is also a possibility that City sell O’Reilly on loan, with no decision made about his future yet.
