Pundit blasts Nottingham Forest 'entitlement' amid Ange Postecoglou demand

Latest Nottingham Forest news as the future of Reds head coach Ange Postecoglou continues to be debated

Pundit Chris Sutton has accused Nottingham Forest fans of ‘entitlement’ for turning on Ange Postecoglou.

Seven games into life at the City Ground, the Reds head coach is yet to register a win. It has led to question marks over his future Trentside after barely a month at the helm.

Plenty of Forest supporters were not convinced by the appointment of Postecoglou in the first place when he was announced as Nuno Espirito Santo’s replacement during the last international break. Results since have done little to sway those doubters.

During last week’s Europa League defeat to FC Midtjylland, the home crowd made their feelings perfectly clear. They directed chants of ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’ at Postecoglou, sang Nuno’s name and greeted the final whistle with boos.

“I cannot ever remember a fanbase getting stuck into a manager and singing for a manager to be sacked after six games,” Sutton reflected on the Football Daily podcast. “For the life of me, I don’t understand what purpose…

“When have you ever heard a fanbase singing for their own manager to be sacked after six games? I found that ridiculous.

“I think there’s an entitled element to the Nottingham Forest support that the recent success and their clear love for Nuno… I get that, and I do understand that.”

Host Mark Chapman intercepted and said: “Just to rewind that a little bit, they’re not entitled because of qualifying (for Europe). Isn’t it more Nuno going? The fans didn’t think there was anything wrong under Nuno in the way they were going and therefore would maybe have a problem with whoever was coming in, unless they hit the ground running.”

After Sunday’s loss away to Newcastle United, Postecoglou said he expects to hold talks with Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis during the two-week hiatus. How much time the former Tottenham Hotspur boss is afforded to try to turn the situation around remains to be seen.

Sutton sees only one outcome in the end. But the former striker is convinced it is ‘unfair’ for Postecoglou to come under pressure so early in his tenure.

“Any manager needs time. He has barely been in the job for four weeks,” Sutton said.

“I don’t see this lasting long. I don’t see it ending well for Ange Postecoglou, just based on I don’t think the Nottingham Forest fans, in the main, will change their mind about him.

“But I think it’s deeply, deeply unfair. It sums up where we’re at in the game now, about how short-term people think. I don’t think that’s right. Everybody needs time.”
