Nadine Doherty: Helen O’Rourke is one of the most inspirational female leaders in the country

Three years ago I wrote a piece documenting Helen O’Rourke’s career as CEO of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association. A lot of people were drawn to it online. The headline, ‘Iron Lady forged a new era’, likely attracted people who were curious as to why the polarising former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was being referenced in a sporting context.

However, the majority of clicks were mainly because of the enduring public interest that followed the woman who until recently had been the longest-serving CEO in Irish sport.
