Arsenal will be sweating over the fitness of full-back Riccardo Calafiori after he picked up an injury while on international duty with Italy.

The 22-year-old started the 2-1 loss against Germany in the first leg of the UEFA Nations League quarter-final play-off. But he suffered what looked like a worrying injury in stoppage time.

While attempting to change direction, Calafiori slipped with his knee appearing to buckle under him. He went down and appeared to be in paid before receiving treatment from the Italy medical team, and walking off the pitch gingerly.

Following the match, Italy boss Luciano Spalletti gave the latest on the defender. "He said that his knee feels strange, but cannot answer more precisely than that, so we’ll have to see,” he said.

As he left the stadium, Calafiori himself also gave reporters a simple update on his injury. When asked, he simply said: “I still don’t know.”

It’s a situation that Arsenal will be keeping a close eye on, the defender’s first season with the Gunners has been disrupted by injury with him missing a total of 14 games in all competitions due to four different short-term injuries. He has however still played a total of 26 games, scoring three goals and providing two assists from left-back.

The injur means that Calafiori is unlikely to be available for Italy for the second leg of their play-off clash against Germany. The nation travel to Dortmund on Sunday evening (7.45pm kick-off) as they look to turn the tie around.

Arsenal will hope that the injury is not too bad and doesn’t rule the full-back out of the Premier League clash against Fulham upon the return of the domestic football for Arsenal on Tuesday, 1 April. Eyes will also be on the Champions League quarter final against Real Madrid seven days later.
