A US college football star who had been set to go in the NFL draft has been found dead days before he was due to face court over a fatal car crash.

Kyren Lacy led Louisiana State University for touchdowns in 2024 and was on track for a career in the NFL when he was involved in a car crash that killed a former Marine late last year.

Lacy was charged with negligent homicide over the December 17 crash when he allegedly was speeding and crossed into oncoming traffic on the Louisiana Highway.

Lacy, who was free on bail at the time of his death, was charged in January and a grand jury was due to start hearing evidence into the case today.

On Saturday, his body was found at a Houston property with police saying there were no suspicious circumstances.

“We’re saddened to learn of the tragic passing of former LSU Football student-athlete Kyren Lacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones, as well as his former teammates and coaches impacted by his passing,” LSU said in a statement.
