Cadbury and Fans Supporting Foodbanks unite to help local communities

The new campaign will officially launch at the Merseyside derby on Saturday, with Cadbury kicking it off with a donation of 12,400 protein bars and chocolate bars – half a tonne of food – to Fans Supporting Foodbanks.

Fans of both clubs are encouraged to bring food and other key items to donate before the match. Donations can be dropped off at Anfield at Flagpole Corner ahead of the 12.30pm BST kick-off.

The first 1,000 donors will receive a Cadbury Dairy Milk bar to thank them for their generous contribution to this important cause.

Fans Supporting Foodbanks was founded in 2015 and is a joint initiative between Liverpool FC and Everton FC, promoting a global message of football solidarity because hunger doesn’t wear club colours.

It started with just three fans collecting tins of food on matchdays. It now supplies a massive 25 per cent of all donations to North Liverpool Foodbank.

Dave Kelly, co-founder and chair of Fans Supporting Foodbanks, said: “A massive shoutout to Cadbury and Liverpool Football Club for such a generous donation. This donation will enable us to supplement the selection of food at our pantries across the Liverpool City Region.

“Our pantries provide fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and ambient goods to our service users. We provide food for around 2,500 people, with around 800 of them children. Our ethos of providing quality goods is enhanced greatly with their generosity.”

Cadbury has a longstanding history of supporting foodbanks locally and nationally, with a partnership with the Trussell Trust that has seen the business donate funding and more than half a million products to UK foodbanks since 2020.

Louise Page, partnerships lead at Mondelez International, added: “Our partnership with Liverpool FC is built on shared values of generosity and ensuring all fans feel included. The support of campaigns like Fans Supporting Foodbanks give us a chance to live and breathe this on matchdays and beyond.

“This campaign means we can provide products to those fans and families who often cannot access them, through fantastic organisations supporting those in greatest need.

“We are incredibly proud to work with the club and Fans Supporting Foodbanks and to witness the positive impact it is having in local communities across Liverpool and beyond.”

In addition to donating at the derby, fans can pledge their support to find out other ways they can help throughout the season – with more activations and opportunities to be announced.
