Liverpool have confirmed the appointment of Luiz Fernando Iubel in a new role to help more young players follow in the path of Rio Ngumoha in progressing to the first team. Iubel, who has dual Brazil and Germany citizenship, has been appointed individual development lead coach and started his new role this week.

The 36-year-old has extensive coach experience in his native Brazil and had most recently been assistant coach of Atletico Mineiro.

Iubel has worked on the coaching staff of a number of clubs including Vasco da Gama and assumed the interim head coach role at Cuiadba on multiple occasions.

He was also employed as a tactical analyst for Germany during the 2016 Olympics in Rio, where they won the silver medal when beaten by hosts Brazil in the final.

Iubel has been tasked to work with coaches at Liverpool's Academy in Kirkby to create a pathway from possible loan deals and then into the senior team.

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot was involved in the decision to appoint Iubel along with Reds sporting director Richard Hughes, Academy director Alex Inglethorpe and Fenway Sports Group technical director Julian Ward and director of football development Pedro Marques.

The appointment means Aaron Briggs has been been named set-piece coach having joined Liverpool last year as first-team individual development coach.

There have been a number of changes in the Reds backroom staff since the Premier League title was lifted in May.
