Alisson makes honest future admission after Liverpool confirm transfer - 'I have planned'

Alisson Becker has discussed his future with the Liverpool goalkeeper approaching the end of his contract

Alisson Becker says he expects Liverpool to take up their option to extend his contract by a further year as he talked about his ambition to one day return to boyhood club Internacional. The Reds' goalkeeping department is going through several changes this summer, though this discussion will be tabled for a later date.

Now a two-time Premier League winner, Alisson has become one of Liverpool's most integral players and one of the world's best in his position throughout his seven years on Merseyside. Back in 2021 he made his commitment to the club by signing a deal through to 2026, with it since made clear that those in power at Anfield have the choice to extend his stay by an extra 12 months.

By that point in time the goalkeeper will be 35 years old, and speaking at a news conference ahead of the Brazilian national team's 2026 World Cup qualifier against Peru he stated his belief that the extension will be made official.

"I've never been able to plan long term. Obviously now I have one year left on my contract and another year of club option, which they will probably exercise," Alisson said.

However he added that his immediate focus will be to secure Brazil's qualification for the next iteration of the World Cup, so his Liverpool future is not the most pressing matter to attend to.

"It's a decisive moment in my career, with a World Cup coming up. I want to be very focused, I don't want anything external to get in the way of that."

The 32-year-old was also questioned about the possibility of following in the footsteps of Neymar Jr, Thiago Silva and even former Red Philippe Coutinho, who have all returned to play club football in their home country in the past year.

Alisson responded: "I talk to athletes who have made this move to return, some have had good experiences, others not.

"Each one will have their own experience, but I want to return, especially to Inter. I don't know when it will happen, but I still want to do it at a high level. That's what I have planned."

Internacional, of the Brazilian Serie A, trained Alisson from the age of 10 through to his full debut at the age of 20. Before earning his breakout move to AS Roma, he made 101 appearances for the club.

So for the foreseeable, Liverpool can look forward to keeping their favourite Brazilian as the club make a number of changes around him this summer transfer window.

Most recently, the Reds have announced the signing of 20-year-old starlet Armin Pecsi as their second signing ahead of the new season. He joins from Puskas Akademia for £1.5m - a club-record fee for the Hungarian top-flight club.

Last year a £30m agreement was put in place for Georgian international Giorgi Mamardashvili to arrive on July 1, 2025. Subsequently, academy graduate Caoimhin Kelleher has been allowed to move to Brentford in an £18m deal at the start of this window.
