OFFICIALLY OFFICIAL: Jonathan David signs with Juventus

From one leader of the front office to another, Juventus have made one thing clear: Jonathan David was going to be a player they wanted to try and sign. Their interest is nothing close to newfound or opportunistic on the transfer market. Juve’s pursuit of David has been a process, and something that has been going on for months, if not longer than that.

Come Friday, though, the chase was officially over. Rather than trying to convince David to agree to final terms and close the deal, it was one step further.

It was signing day — and David finally step foot in Turin.

Juventus have announced the signing of the 25-year-old David, who arrives as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Lille at the end of June. David has signed a five-year contract with the Bianconeri through 2030 and will reportedly earn a salary worth €6 million net a season with another €2 million in bonuses. Since no free agent deal is actually free these days, Juve will also pay ancillary and agent fees worth €12.5 million as part of David’s arrival in Turin this summer — which is well below some of the figures that had been thrown around over the past few weeks as the possibility of him joining the Turin giants became more and more of a possibility.

David is the first men’s player from Canada to play for Juventus, following in the footsteps of current Canada women’s national team midfielder Julia Grosso, who was a member of Juventus Women from 2022 to 2024.

Here are the brief details of the deal, courtesy of Juventus’ press office:

Turin, 4 July 2025 – Juventus Football Club S.p.A. announces that it has signed a contract of employment with the player Jonathan Christian David; as part of the player registration, Juventus will incur ancillary costs of € 12.5 million, payable in three financial years. Juventus and the player have signed a contract of employment until 30 June 2030.

So there you go. Juventus have their new striker — and one that is coming off a five-year run in Ligue 1 in which he showed to be one of the best attacking players in the league even if he didn’t get a huge amount of headlines compared to a certain Qatari-owned club in Paris.

In the past three seasons, David has recorded 30 or more goal contributions in all competitions. Domestically, he’s recorded 20 or more goal contributions over that same span. He scored 24, 19 and 16 goals the past three seasons with Lille, and has the versatility to be a player who is going to give Juventus a different look than the player who has dominated the conversation in attack the last few years.

David announced in May that he would be leaving Lille, the club he has been at since the summer of 2020 after signing for a club-record fee from Belgian side Gent.

David — who was born in Brooklyn, New York, but raised in Quebec — is also Canada’s all-time leading scorer with 36 goals in 67 appearances.

“I want a club with ambition that wants to do something,” David said in an interview with The Athletic back in June. “Obviously, I would love to fight for titles, to win titles. A team that’s competitive, that has ambition, really, with a good sporting project.”

At the age of 25, David is getting his biggest chance to date. He has moved from Belgium to France, and now France to the biggest club in Italy. The hope is that David is part of a roster that helps Juventus get back to their former domestic glory. And if he does that, then that desire to join a club that is fighting for titles will be fulfilled.
