Exclusive: Rangers agree deal for Brighton sensation Zebedee Lawson

Rangers have agreed a deal to sign Brighton’s teenage sensation Zebedee Lawson in what is a major coup for the Scottish giants, sources have told Football Insider.

Skilful forward Lawson is highly-regarded at Brighton, having impressed for the club’s Under-16s and Under-18s sides.

The 16-year-old scored three goals and provided one assist for Brighton’s Under-18s in 13 U18 Premier League games, seeing him attract plenty of attention.

A number of top clubs were tracking Lawson, but Rangers have stolen a march on their rivals by luring the exciting teenager to Auchenhowie in Scotland.

It is impossible to guess exactly where Lawson will end up next season upon signing for the Gers, with a club-wide decision to abandon Rangers B in favour of loan deals agreed in February.

Due to the changes, Bailey Rice, Findlay Curtis, Paul Nsio and Mason Munn were all promoted to the first-team squad, though under new management, their futures at Ibrox could change as well.

Despite a rather difficult campaign for the Light Blues, finishing 17 points behind Old Firm rivals Celtic and being knocked out of other domestic competitions, the draw is still there for young talents.

Of course, many Rangers fans will want to avoid a repeat of Zak Lovelace, who arrived as an extremely exciting, record-breaking winger in 2022, making eight senior appearances before returning to Millwall.

Supporters should certainly be excited about the future when it comes to players like Lawson, but given how frustrating the previous campaign was, many will want signings for now and next season.

Todd Cantwell gave his stamp of approval on the Max Aarons signing, and the former Southampton figure is likely to make multiple adjustments before the 2025/26 campaign kicks off.

Football Insider understands that Rangers are also confident of sealing Conor Coady’s signature as soon as next week, with Peterborough United’s Emmanuel Fernandez possibly following suit.
