'Great player' who 'really pleased' Ruben Amorim is now on Man Utd chopping block, Red Devils 'would consider selling'

A longstanding Manchester United player could now be offloaded from Ruben Amorim’s first-team squad amid the latest twist in his future, according to reports.

Ruben Amorim is still expected to see a number of Manchester United players make their exit from Old Trafford this summer as part of his major squad overhaul.

The 40-year-old United manager has already overseen one high-profile departure from the Premier League club, with Marcus Rashford signing on loan for Barcelona.

However, Marcus Rashford is not alone on the chopping block and the likes of Tyrell Malacia, Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho are all surplus to requirements.

The Red Devils are keen to offload spare United first-team players this summer to free up wages and keep the Premier League club’s finances in a balanced state.

United manager Amorim has already welcomed several new signings to Old Trafford this summer, including Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon.

Luke Shaw’s Man Utd future under Ruben Amorim takes an interesting turn after the Red Devils’ latest transfer stance

Luke Shaw is under a Manchester United contract until 2027 and the 30-year-old Red Devils left-back has featured on the pre-season tour under Ruben Amorim.

The United star had a disappointing 2024-25 Premier League campaign and Luke Shaw’s season was limited to 12 appearances in all competitions due to injuries.

Stretty News now reports that the Red Devils ‘would consider selling’ the England international and United have a price in mind for Shaw amid the summer window.

According to the publication, United ‘wouldn’t mind cashing in’ on the injury-plagued Three Lions full-back if a club tabled an offer worth around £17m for Shaw.

Stretty News claims that the aforementioned figure would be ‘enough to convince’ the Ineos regime to allow the former Southampton talent to leave Old Trafford.

It is believed that Shaw could struggle for first-team minutes in the 2025-26 Premier League season, with the Red Devils missing out on European football as well.

Man Utd and Ruben Amorim’s position on Luke Shaw amid the Red Devils’ willingness to now sell the England star

Amorim spoke highly of Shaw amid the pre-season summer tour and the former Sporting CP head coach praised the ability of the United veteran on the pitch.

“Luke Shaw is a world-class player,” he said, as per BBC Sport in July.

“That is my feeling. You can feel it in the small things; when he touches the ball, the ability to play one against one.”

Amorim added: “England had two finals. He had issues during the season, but in the final, he is always there. That means something.

“But he needs to be fit. He needs to train at the limit, which is what he is doing at the moment.

“He is a great player and I am really pleased with him.”

Stretty News added that Amorim’s team and United ‘will try to force’ Shaw out of the Premier League club if the England player openly wants to stay at Old Trafford.
