Oisín Cooney has joined Premier League side Burnley FC from Finn Harps.

Harps stand to make money based on clauses related to the goalkeeper's appearances and performances, as well as any future sale, but they have not received an up-front transfer fee.

"I'm delighted to get the deal over the line," he told Burnley's website.

"The people make a football club really special and I got a great vibe as soon as I walked through the door here.

"Burnley has a great footballing culture and there’s an evident pathway through to the first team, so I’m really looking forward to getting started now."

Cooney had a recent trial with the Clarets and will initially work with the club's under-21 squad. His contract runs until the summer of 2027, with an option of another year at that stage.

He joined the Harps academy from Clonmany Shamrocks, working his way up from the under-15 side through to the senior squad over three years, culminating in 18 appearances in the SSE Airtricity League First Division.

"Two years ago we significantly strengthened our goalkeeper coaching capacity with the addition of Eamon Curry," said Finn Harps chairperson Ian Harkin.

"Our player pathway has been carefully managed and first team appearances have been key to providing visibility not just to the Irish underage international team, but also to scouts from the UK.

"We are immensely proud of Oisín and the progress he has made with us. His move to Burnley is a testament to his talent and dedication, and we look forward to seeing him continue his journey at the highest level. The structure of the deal also ensures Finn Harps will benefit from Oisín’s future success."

Cooney has Ireland underage caps at under-16, under-17 and under-19 level.

Ireland senior international Josh Cullen is the club captain at Burnley.

Mason Melia and Victor Ozhianvuna have both secured future moves to the Premier League, with Melia set to join Tottenham in January, while Ozhianvuna will join north London rivals Arsenal 12 months later.
