Rodrygo was the subject of transfer speculation over the summer as Liverpool and Arsenal were linked to the Real Madrid star as he struggles for starts under Xabi Alonso

After a summer of speculation over his Real Madrid future, Rodrygo remained at the Bernabeu but the possibility of a transfer has not ended there. The Brazil star still has one eye on the exit and is willing to leave the Spanish capital in January if he does not get enough playing time, according to reports.

Rodrygo has played 81 minutes across three games in La Liga this season under Xabi Alonso and the 33-cap international was not included in Carlo Ancelotti's Brazil squad for World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Bolivia. The 24-year-old is certain to have his mind focused on making the trip to the United States for football's biggest tournament with the Selecao.

The attacker has no shortage of competition in the Real Madrid ranks with Alonso having the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Arda Guler, Franco Mastantuono, Brahim Diaz and Vinicius Jr at his disposal with Jude Bellingham to return from injury.

According to TEAMtalk, the Brazilian is still 'mindful of his future', and could even seek a move in the January transfer window if he does not get enough playing time.

Rodrygo has thus far alternated starts with his Brazil team-mate Vinicius Jr, and his struggle for minutes under ex-Liverpool metronome Alonso has seen plenty of scrutiny since the Spaniard was appointed ahead of the Club World Cup.

"It depends on what we need in terms of the game, the workload and the opposition," Alonso said of his team selections in August.

"I haven't made a decision for the next month. I'm going to see how we recover and to make sure that people feel important and ready to start, come off the bench or be able to be in the next game.

"This is important for the stability of the team's performance. Today was a game to show that we're still improving. We want to continue like this, now we'll prepare for the Mallorca game before the break.

"We have twenty-odd players in the squad and I'm going to try to get the best out of all of them. Sometimes you can have a few minutes and be important, today Vini was important. My intention is that everyone contributes to the team. That's going to be the norm."

Rodrygo was linked with moves to Arsenal and Liverpool during the summer transfer window and will even make a trip to Anfield in the coming months.

The Reds will will welcome Los Blancos to Merseyside in November and following the draw, Rodrygo took to X to give his verdict.

He wrote: "A por la 16!", which loosely translates to 'Let's go for the 16th' in reference to Real's bid for a 16th Champions League/European Cup win.

The forward has previously turned down a move to Liverpool, albeit when he was still playing for Santos. "We didn’t close the deal because I didn’t want to. I wanted to stay at Santos even though the offer was very good," Rodrygo has previously revealed.

"The pathway they promised me would also have been very good for my career. I was going to finish my studies in England to prepare for European football.

"It had always been my dream to play in Europe. Everything was very good, but my desire spoke louder. I wanted to stay at Santos and make a bit of history at the club. And that’s what happened: I was able to fulfil my dream of playing for Santos. But it’s true, I almost went to Liverpool."
