Darwin Nunez has two destinations to choose as Liverpool exit edges closer

Darwin Nunez will have to choose between two potential destinations as he edges closer to a move away from Liverpool this summer.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have said about the 25-year-old’s future.

Al-Hilal are set to reignite their interest after missing out on a deal for Victor Osimhen, but Atletico Madrid plan to make a move which will force him into a decision.

Football Insider revealed on 6 June that Liverpool expect Nunez to leave and he is one of multiple forward’s whose futures are uncertain under Arne Slot.

Now, the player will decide on his eventual destination amid uncertainty over whether he would prefer to stay in Europe rather than moving to the Middle East.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed on 4 March that Nunez wants to leave Liverpool after being denied the chance to move in January.

Liverpool plan to cash in on Darwin Nunez as new race begins

Football Insider revealed on 12 April that Liverpool are planning a busy summer window as they plan to spend big in the wake of Nunez’s departure.

The Uruguayan’s sale will allow them to bring in alternative options to lead the line, a position which has become a priority for Slot after their early business.

O’Rourke explained that the striker’s future looks like it will be away from Anfield, although his destination has yet to be determined.

“Al-Hilal, we know there’s a desire for them to bring in a number nine,” he told Football Insider.

“They’ve been frustrated in their attempts to sign Victor Osimhen and they wanted a big marquee signing before the Club World Cup, which they haven’t been able to do.

“Liverpool are open to offers for Darwin Nunez because he doesn’t figure in Arne Slot’s plans.

“It’s not just Al-Hilal, there are other Saudi Pro League clubs looking at the Uruguayan.

“There will also be European interest in Darwin Nunez, Atletico Madrid are one of the clubs who are believed to be interested in signing him.

“Liverpool are holding out for the highest offer they can get, then they can use those funds for their own transfer plans.

“Right now, Nunez’s future is looking like it’s away from Anfield and it’s a case of whether he is interested in the Saudi Pro League or if he prefers to stay in Europe.”

Victor Osimhen update emerges at Anfield

The collapse of Al-Hilal’s move to sign Osimhen has had a direct impact on Liverpool, but not only with regard to Nunez’s immediate future.

Football Insider revealed on 13 June that Liverpool are interested in signing Osimhen and have joined a number of clubs in the race for his signature.

Galatasaray would “love” to sign the Nigerian on a permanent deal following his successful loan spell, while he is keen to remain in Europe.

Meanwhile, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in April that Man United and Chelsea have looked at Osimhen among their targets.
