Newcastle Want to Sign £60m Man Utd Star in January, Eddie Howe Loves Him

Newcastle United are keeping close tabs on Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo ahead of the January transfer window, according to talkSPORT.

The Magpies had a busy summer transfer window as they added Anthony Elanga, Aaron Ramsdale, Malick Thiaw, Jacob Ramsey, Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa to the squad having qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

Man Utd were also busy in the window but were rocked when it emerged that Mainoo had asked to leave the club ahead of the deadline, as he looked for more regular first-team football. The club rejected that request but he has yet to feature regularly since, and Eddie Howe's side are now prepared to make a move for him should it continue.

Newcastle Prepared to Move for Man Utd Star Mainoo

Mainoo, who is said to be valued at around £60m at Old Trafford, has started just once for Ruben Amorim this season, in the penalty shootout defeat to Grimsby Town.

Despite injuries to Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount recently, Mainoo was once again named as a substitute for the Manchester Derby on Sunday, and after coming on as a substitute with 30 minutes to play showed why he deserves to be playing more often.

However, Newcastle are now ready to make a move to bring the England international to St James' Park in January should his lack of game time continue.

GIVEMESPORT key statistic: Kobbie Mainoo has played just 73 minutes of Premier League football this season.

According to the report, manager Howe is said to be a huge fan of the 21-year-old midfielder and they will consider making a formal move to Old Trafford chiefs if the player's situation doesn't change between now and the new year.

Many fans are disappointed at the lack of game time for the academy star this season, and talkSPORT report that several of Mainoo's teammates are also 'perplexed' at the fact that Amorim doesn't seem to have any faith in the talented star.

It's understood that Man Utd don't want to let Mainoo leave at all, however, the player could push for an exit should his lack of game time continue with the World Cup next summer and his contract with the club expiring in 2027.
