Liverpool star Mohamed Salah slams disrespect after Alexander Isak joins them from Newcastle United

Mohamed Salah has reacted angrily to a suggestion from a Liverpool fan after they signed Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.

Isak broke the British transfer record when leaving Newcastle for Liverpool and his departure from St James’ Park was acrimonious to say the very least.

The Sweden striker’s behaviour forced Newcastle United’s hand, and they ended up selling him on the final day of a chaotic transfer window.

Newcastle’s brutal statement about Isak’s move sums up the ill-feeling towards him. One of the club’s greatest players in the modern age left under a cloud.

Still, what’s done is done and there’s little doubt signing one of the best strikers in the world makes a Liverpool side who won the Premier League title at a canter last season even stronger.

Salah, however, wants more respect for those who came before the Sweden international.

Mohamed Salah defends Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez

On Wednesday, a Liverpool fan account posted an image on social media platform X.

The photo showed Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez – who both left Anfield this summer – alongside Florian Wirtz and Isak.

It was captioned: “Name a bigger upgrade in footballing history.”

In response, Salah wrote: “How about we celebrate the great signings without disrespecting the PL champions?”

Clearly, Salah does not want his former teammates being disrespected just because big name new signings have come through the door.

Newcastle United fuming with Alexander Isak

Salah is right, that post was disrespectful. Nunez and Diaz have literally only just played a key role in a Premier League title win.

If the Isak saga has taught us anything, however, it’s that top level football is littered with disrespect.

Newcastle fans turned on Isak for his lack of respect for the club. Indeed, his goodbye message appears to be too little too late.

Frankly, the whole thing has been an ugly saga from start to finish. It would have been nice for Isak to play for Newcastle for another season of course, but thankfully the circus is over.
