England vs West Indies LIVE: First ODI, Edgbaston

England hoping to end losing streak

England will be desperate to make a winning start to this series after seeing their 50-over form nosedive.

The hosts are on a seven-match losing streak in the format, including losing all three of their matches at February’s Champions Trophy, and have only won three times in 14 matches since the start of 2024.

West Indies, meanwhile, have won seven of their past 10 ODIs, including completing a 2-1 series win over England last November. However, Shai Hope’s side were absent from both the 2023 Cricket World Cup and this year’s Champions Trophy.

Sitting eighth and ninth, respectively, in the ICC rankings, England and West Indies are in danger of missing out on automatic qualification for the 2027 World Cup. Both sides are likely to need a place in the top nine of the rankings in March 2027 to avoid an additional qualifying tournament.
