RND19 Injury Update: Pearce, Fyfe, Young

Fremantle High Performance Manager Phil Merriman says midfielder Andrew Brayshaw has pulled up well following a cut to his head in the win over the Hawks.

Brayshaw copped a knee from teammate Luke Jackson in a marking contest late in the game, but Merriman confirmed the midfielder is tracking well ahead of a blockbuster clash with Collingwood at the MCG on Sunday.

“The cameras caught him at the right time. He’s got about 10 staples in his head,” Merriman said.

Midfielders Hayden Young and Will Brodie’s availability for selection ahead of Round 19 will depend on their fitness at main training on Wednesday.

Young has been sidelined since hamstring surgery early in May, while Brodie has been recovering from a concussion sustained in the WAFL last month after being delayed due to the birth of his first child.

“He’s (Young) gotten through everything we’ve asked of him,” Merriman said.

“He has a hurdle to get through at main training. If he gets through that, he’ll be available for selection.

“Same thing, he’s (Brodie) got to get through tomorrow.”

Merriman confirmed skipper Alex Pearce will spend at least another week on the sidelines after missing the win over Hawthorn.

“Moose (Pearce) is still dealing with a little bit of awareness in that (shin) area,” Merriman said.

“He’s going to be around the one-to-two-week mark.”

In other news, midfielder Nat Fyfe (calf) and half-back Cooper Simpson (AC joint) are just one week away from returning to football.

“We should hopefully be seeing them out there next week,” Merriman concluded.
