During his presser, Howe was asked about the gargantuan flag, created by fan group Wor Flags, which was draped over a building beside St James’ Park.“It was totally unexpected,” he said.“I didn’t know it was there and didn’t know it was coming. You’re in a little bit of shock in that moment because it’s never about one individual, it’s never about me, it’s always about the team, but there was a lot of thanks from me to the people that thought of that.“To have that connection with the city and the supporters, to acknowledge that they know that I’m trying for them and giving my best in the job – that’s a great thing to have.”Despite entering the latter stages of his career, Fabian Schar has been sensational for Newcastle this season. The Swiss international has played the majority of the Magpies’ games in all competitions and was a big part of the Carabao Cup win alongside local hero Dan Burn.Schar is one of several Newcastle players whose contracts will run out at the end of the season, but Howe is keen to keep the 33-year-old around for another year.“I think Fabby will hopefully be signing his contract imminently, if he hasn’t already, to my knowledge,” said the Toon boss in Tuesday’s press conference.Schar has not only been a rock at the back, but has also been amongst the goals, scoring four times in all competitions.
