WTA star Coco Gauff kicked off her 2025 season with style after bagging an epic win against Iga Swiatek in the United Cup finals. She ditched the 2025 ASB Classic for this team event and successfully led Team USA to their second victory. But although Gauff’s performance in singles and mixed doubles with her partner Taylor Fritz was impressive, the fraternity could not help but focus on the 2023 US Open champion’s victory over Iga Swiatek given their 2-11 head-to-head record. Now, another yesteryear ATP legend has joined the bandwagon of Gauff’s well-wishers, explaining why her win over the Pole was such a big deal.20-year-old Coco confessed how her match result against Swiatek had boosted her confidence. “I think just confidence. I think I have the belief that I’m one of the best players in the world and when I play good tennis, I’m hard to beat,” Gauff said. And her podcast host concurred when a gushing Andy Roddick expressed his delight while contextualizing the scale of her victory.Reflecting on Gauff’s incredible win over Iga Swiatek – someone who overpowered her 11 times in their past 13 encounters – Roddick said on his Served podcast’s episode, “the biggest result of the week for me Coco coming off of year and finals winning, beating Iga there who I think going in that she was 1 on 11 beating Iga again and now united cup is not a major its not an Indian Wells final its but when you have such a bad record against someone.”ADVERTISEMENT Article continues below this adThe veteran continued, speaking with the knowledge that comes from a career wrought in overturning losing H-2-H records against tennis titans like the Big Four.
