INEOS continuing with overhaul of backroom staff

Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe assumed operational control of the club in February last year, he has implemented a raft of backroom changes in an effort to ensure that United have the best-in-class personnel in nearly every position.

The focus has primarily been on United’s footballing structure but other departments, including medical and nutrition, have also been subjected to changes over the past few months.

In March, Jim Moxon vacated his role as United’s first-team doctor. Moxon has since joined Brighton and Hove Albion.

In September 2023, United snapped up Gary O’Driscoll from Arsenal to serve as head of sports medicine.

O’Driscoll left Old Trafford in March after just 18 months in the role, and United have secured his replacement, Imtiaz Ahmad, who previously held the same position at Crystal Palace.

Now, Fotherby has been named United’s new first team doctor for the men’s team.

Fotherby lands role at United

Two days ago, Fotherby wrote on his LinkedIn account, “After three fantastic years at Everton Football Club, I will be leaving my role as Men’s First Team Doctor to take on an exciting new opportunity.”

“It has been a privilege to work at Everton alongside such amazing staff, coaches, and players. I am incredibly grateful for the experiences, opportunities and life-long friends I’ve made during my time at the club. Thank you to everyone who has been part of the journey.”

Earlier on Wednesday, he issued an update, relaying, “I am delighted to share that I am joining Manchester United as Men’s First Team Doctor.”

“It is a privilege to be a part of this historic club and to help support the team in achieving success at the highest level.”

United are back in action on Sunday, September 14, when they face cross-town rivals Manchester City at the Etihad.
