Lindsay Davenport stunned by what Coco Gauff just keeps doing, it's 'unbelievable'

Coco Gauff is very much the poster girl for female tennis, especially in the United States.

Gauff will play Veronika Kudermetova in the last 32 of the Montreal Open later today, and she will hope to come into some form ahead of the US Open.

The 21-year-old defeated Aryna Sabalenka in the French Open final earlier this year to win a second Grand Slam crown.

Gauff praised Danielle Collins after beating her in the first match at the latest tournament, and she looks revived following a first-round exit at Wimbledon.

Rennae Stubbs recently made a big claim about Gauff and now Lindsay Davenport has admitted she’s stunned at something the American continues to do.

Lindsay Davenport stunned by Coco Gauff

If there is one thing that Gauff has to improve on, it’s most definitely her serve.

Against Collins, Gauff came through despite a staggering 23 double faults and she is top of the list for most double faults of the year so far.

Davenport has been quizzed on this situation involving Gauff on the Tennis Channel Live Podcast and she is stunned by the situation.

She said: “It was interesting she kept looking down at her grip when she was serving. It looked like they were trying to make some changes with the serve. She was not comfortable with it yet. It looks like they know it’s a problem and she didn’t have the confidence with it last night.

“Her toss was all over the place. But she still wins. It’s unbelievable her ability to figure out ways to win when she is playing, honestly, C-level tennis out there. She did a fantastic job managing her emotions.”

Gauff has to work on service game ahead of US Open

Gauff would love to bow out of 2025 with two Grand Slam titles to her name and winning at Flushing Meadows again would cement her status in the game.

The world number two will be one of the fancied players when the US Open gets underway, having won it before but the serve is becoming a concern.

Gauff can’t keep progressing in tournaments against better players if she keeps totting up a number of service errors in each match.

Gauff has achieved so much in tennis that it’s easy to forget how young she still is.

Right now, her game is close to being perfect but until she pins down and resolves the issue with the service game, the inconsistencies will always rob her of putting a run of title wins together.
