Benjamin Sesko’s international teammate has had his say on the striker’s potential and suitability to play in the Premier League.

When it comes to Benjamin Sesko’s transfer to Manchester United, fellow professional Andraz Sporar is in a unique position to comment.

Sporar plays as a striker for Slovenia alongside Benjamin Sesko, and also played for Sporting for a brief stint under current United head coach Ruben Amorim.

He also had a spell playing in England with Middlesbrough, part of the team that knocked Ralf Rangnick’s United out of the FA Cup at Old Trafford in early 2022.

Andraz Sporar is currently playing in Turkey for Alanyaspor, and he admits that Benjamin Sesko’s transfer to Manchester United has been a big topic of conversation.

Sporar told Slovenian outlet Siol.net: “We have talked a lot about Benjamin with my teammates. They ask me what kind of player he is. They are interested in whether he is really worth this money. I will tell you what I told them.

“This may be a bold statement, but considering the potential that Benjamin has, 85 million euros may even be too low for him.

“With the potential he has, he can still develop. Let’s not forget what he has already achieved at the age of 22, and with this potential I am sure that he could make an even more expensive transfer in the rest of his career.”

Manchester United won’t be interested in a future expensive transfer that sends Sesko elsewhere, but Sporar’s point stands.

The striker believes that Sesko has all the physical capabilities to be a huge hit at Manchester United, and says that the main challenges he faces are mental ones.

Sporar said: “Sesko must be aware that wasted opportunities at United will be all the more potent, so he must be very well prepared psychologically. As I know him, he is working a lot on this and will be able to deal with it.”

Despite the unique challenges a move to Manchester United presents for any player in terms of pressure, Sporar believes it is the best move for his talented international colleague.

“As far as I am concerned, he has taken the right step. The game is dynamic football, but Sesko, with his physical predispositions, height and strength, should have no problems. On the contrary, I am convinced that he will have no problems at all. It will be more a question of the psyche. No one can doubt his physique.

“What Sesko has is a gift from God. This is ideal for strikers. He is fast, strong, skilful, extremely flexible. If he can also mentally cope with the pressure, success will not be lacking.”

Ruben Amorim and Benjamin Sesko union backed

Ruben Amorim maximised the ability of striker Viktor Gyokeres at Sporting, while Sporar managed 13 goal contributions in the one season he played under him.

Sporar believes Amorim will be a good head coach for Sesko, and backs his record of developing young players.

He said: “Amorim is definitely a coach with whom Sesko could work well. We were together in Portugal for ten months and he impressed me. Ruben is the right coach for Sesko.”

Sporar added that another Manchester United player he crossed paths with will benefit Sesko, club captain Bruno Fernandes.

“Bruno’s numbers are still incredible. We are talking about goals and passes – top passes that can score a goal at any moment. Bruno simply finds you. I believe that Sesko will be happy with him.”
