Rio Ferdinand agrees with Jamie Carragher on Trent Alexander-Arnold: 'No doubt'

Rio Ferdinand insists Jamie Carragher is RIGHT when it comes to Trent Alexander-Arnold and Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants have wasted no time in moving for the Liverpool right-back, who has seen his contract wind down at Anfield. He'll be available for nothing come the summer and Real put in a £20million bid earlier this month, which was swiftly rejected.

Liverpool have no desire to sell Alexander-Arnold and remain hopeful that he'll sign a new deal as they face the threat of losing a number of their leading lights. Carragher claimed that the right-back's representatives were in the loop regarding Real's low bid last week. He declared that Alexander-Arnold wanted to cover his back should he leave on a free transfer.

And Ferdinand believes some more honesty from the player would actually help his cause as speculation continues to mount over where he'll be plying his trade next season.

The ex-Manchester United star said on his podcast: "I'd be surprise if Trent and his team didn't know, I agree with Jamie Carragher. I'd be surprised if his team didn't know that bid was coming in. Real Madrid aren't bidding if they don't think Trent will say yes. But when you know that bid is coming in, you're under scrutiny you've got to expect whatever comes with that.

"You've got to be battle hardened, ready to roll with the punches. There's no doubt Trent wants to go to Real Madrid, but to make this as smooth a transition over the next few months, he just needs to come out and be honest.

"I think thats why Mo Salah is getting a bit of grace, he's saying we can't come to a conclusion, we cant go close in terms of numbers and years, so nothings happening and im going. But I think he gets a bit of grace because he;'s honest, blunt and brutal about it."

Alexander-Arnold found himself in the spotlight on Sunday as he put in a below par showing in the draw with United at Anfield. Many claimed the speculation surrounding him has begun to filter into his performances.

The player though has maintained he will not speak publicly about his contract talks, contrary to Ferdinand's advice. He said: "I want to be a Liverpool player this season [as a minimum] is what I will say. I have been at the club 20 years now.

"I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public - and this one won't be either."
