Independent committee investigating seven footballers convenes for first time

PETALING JAYA: The Independent Investigation Committee (IIC) looking into the FIFA case involving seven national football team players has convened for the first time.

In a statement issued on Monday (Nov 3), former Chief Justice Tun Md Raus Sharif (pic) said that the committee held their first meeting today and will work to complete their investigation and report within six weeks.

"The committee will carry out their duties independently and with full commitment to ensure transparency and fairness in their findings," said Tun Raus.

Tun Raus said the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) had appointed him on Oct 7 as chairman of the committee.

He added that the IIC has been tasked with investigating and reviewing the case and submitting recommendations to FAM for further action.

The other members of the IIC are former Court of Appeal judge Datuk Seri Kamaludin Md Said, former Mampu director-general Datuk Seri Dr. Yusof Ismail as well as lawyer Datuk Thavalingam C. Thavarajah.

Thavalingam will serve as the IIC’s secretary, said Tun Raus.

Tun Raus said that while FAM had initially offered administrative and secretariat support, it was decided that these functions would instead be handled by Messrs. Hafarizam Wan & Aisha Mubarak, Advocates & Solicitors to avoid any conflict of interest.

Acting FAM president Datuk Yusoff Mahadi also confirmed their appointment.

He also noted that all four members of the committee would serve without remuneration in the discharge of their duties.
