Punjab FC are looking to start afresh after two disappointing seasons since getting promoted to the ISL!

With the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 season put on hold indefinitely, a few clubs have paused their signings and operations. However, that has not stopped the Indian football season from restarting, and Punjab FC have started in full gear.

The 2025 Durand Cup, the oldest cup tournament in Asia, started earlier this week as East Bengal registered a 5-0 win over South United. Punjab are also playing in the tournament; they may also have a surprise on the cards for their fans.

Have Punjab FC silently changed their crest?

The new Punjab FC crest on the Durand Cup website.

The current crest is in the shape of a circle with the letter ‘P and C’ written towards the centre and Punjab Football Club written on the outer ring. It also includes two footballs on either side. However, we might be seeing them announce a new crest soon.

At least unofficially, Punjab have dropped their new crest, which shows a roaring lion above the words ‘Punjab FC’. This new crest was uploaded on the Durand Cup website, hence confirming that it should have been submitted by the club.

Another interesting take to add to the speculation is the fact that the players’ training jersey. Made by their kit manufacturer, Shiv-Naresh, the Punjab players can be seen sporting a blue jersey without any club logo in a recent social media post.

While there have not been any official “teasers” posted by the club, all these points certainly tally to the fact that the club is looking to rebrand their crest. An official confirmation could be expected before 3rd August, the day Punjab FC face Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC in the 2025 Durand Cup.

While the club was nicknamed “the Shers,” Punjab FC’s crest didn’t have any reference to a Lion previously. Hence, this could be a reason for the change of logo, so that it aligns with the football team’s identity.

A fresh start for Punjab FC?

The Shers released all their foreigners after the 2024-25 season as they signalled a rebuild. So far, PFC have signed Bijoy Varghese and Muhammad Uvais. They have also renewed the contract of Leon Augustine.

The 2022-23 I-League winners have failed to make it to the playoffs in their first two ISL seasons. Though the senior team has underperformed, Punjab FC’s youth teams are performing very well and accumulating trophies in the junior level.

Instead of having to make big money signings, Punjab FC already have a set road map for the coming seasons. Could a new identity and a fresh influx of talent make the Shers the ISL champions in the coming seasons? Let us know your thoughts…

Has Punjab FC officially unveiled a new crest? Not officially, but a lion-themed crest spotted on the Durand Cup website suggests the club is gearing up for a rebrand. When will Punjab FC play their first match in the Durand Cup 2025? Punjab FC’s maiden fixture is scheduled for August 3, 2025, when they face Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC in a Group D clash at SAI Stadium, Kokrajhar, with kick‑off at 4:00 PM IST
