Man Utd impressed by one talented youngster in training, he's already set lofty ambitions

There are several Manchester United players who are staking their claim under Ruben Amorim this summer.

This has included both first-team players and youngsters who are aiming to be the next academy graduate.

Manchester United have some very talented players and Ruben Amorim’s job will be to prove this over the coming campaign.

One player who is expected to improve next season is Joshua Zirkzee who has had a campaign to settle in and could now kick on.

Zirkzee has impressed in pre-season training recently with good finishing in front of goal that gives confidence he can be a big player next season.

New signing Matheus Cunha has blown fans away with his quality in training clips shining through ahead of his teammates.

Several young players have also been impressing.

Diego Leon has been impressing during pre-season at Manchester United

Pre-season offers young players the opportunity to experience training alongside senior opponents and for Amorim to gauge the levels they are at.

This is the case with Diego Leon, with the 18-year-old Paraguayan settling into life in Manchester but at the same time is fighting tooth and nail to earn a first-team slot.

Well, according to United’s official website, this has been a success to date, as the ‘inside story’ article from week two of training has revealed that Leon has been impressive.

Staff are even more impressed considering how the teenager has adapted to the new demanding environment. Leon only joined United earlier this month for £3.4m.

In addition to this, The Athletic has reported that Leon impressed and didn’t look at all out of place in training despite his age and recent arrival from Paraguay.

Photos of Leon during pre-season have shown that the former Cerro Porteno defender has not been given a squad number yet, this is due to the club staff wanting to assess him before deciding on a number.

However, we expect he will get one before kick off against Leeds.

Ruben Amorim decision has increased competition for one Manchester United position

While travelling to Manchester, speaking at the airport in Paraguay, Leon told reporters he would ‘kill it’ in training and earn a first team position, this was despite loan rumours at the time.

It has since been claimed that Leon won’t be sent on loan by United this summer, but that leads to serious competition this summer.

The Athletic’s report from Laurie Whitwell continued to discuss pre-season plans and revealed that Amorim is planning to have a small squad.

This is to replicate the fact United have no European football and so competition will be rife for places and Leon will be involved.

Leon will be battling Harry Amass for the position as first choice back-up behind Patrick Dorgu next season, however, the English youth star is likely leading the competition right now.

With such a massive life change, Leon will likely spend time with the U21s to settle in before targeting a breakout later next season.
