Emi Martinez Aston Villa messages speak volumes after Man Utd transfer drama

The Argentine was linked with a late transfer to Manchester United before the summer transfer window closed

Emi Martinez has received messages of support from Aston Villa fans after the late summer transfer window drama.

Martinez was all smiles and “happy” as he posted on Instagram for the first time since transfer deadline day.

The Argentine was linked with a late transfer to Manchester United before the summer transfer window closed.

Boss Unai Emery admitted the World Cup winner’s future was uncertain after he was left out of the Villa squad for their Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday - just 24 hours before the transfer window closed.

Emery was asked about Martinez’s future during his post-match interviews, and he said: "It is one thing we have to fix.

"Tomorrow the window is finishing and we are expecting something to improve our squad. Keep calm.

"One of the circumstances is Emi Martinez, we will see tomorrow and then we try get the balance and work after the break."

Martinez ultimately ended up staying at Villa Park as Manchester United signed Belgian goalkeeper Sennes Lammens from Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day.

And he is now on international duty with Argentina during the international break.

Having linked up with his international teammates, Martinez posted pictures of himself smiling during training alongside the word “Feliz” which translates to happy.

One fan replied: “Enjoy the international break in Argentina. Then come back ready to go again for Villa, there will be no problem. Deep down Villa fans know that you bleed claret and blue!”

Another supporter said: “Once a villan, always a villan.. we love you emi”, while a third fan simply said: “My keeper”.
