Bray Wanderers have been taken over by a consortium of businessmen, although outgoing chairperson Tony Richardson will still be involved with the League of Ireland outfit.

New owners Malachy Burke, JB Gough, and David Goldstein expressed their delight to be involved at the club, who are currently third in the First Division of the SSE Airtricity League, despite Friday's defeat to UCD at Belfield.

"We are honoured to take on the responsibility of leading Bray Wanderers into its next chapter," Burke said.

"This club holds a special place in the hearts of its management, staff, volunteers, players and supporters, and we will work tirelessly to ensure that it remains a source of pride for the community."

Richardson, who had been in the role of chairperson since Cabinteely took over the club in 2021, added: "We are delighted to pass the torch to Malachy, JB and David, whose ambition for the club aligns perfectly with the vision we have strived to create over the last several years. We believe the club is in excellent hands."

Pat Devlin confirmed to RTÉ Sport that he will be staying on with the club in his Director of Football role.

The Seagulls have been playing in the First Division since their relegation at the end of the 2018 season. They reached the promotion/relegation play-off last year, where they were beaten by Drogheda United.

The club's biggest days came in 1990 and 1999, when they won the FAI Cup.
