What started as a sweet gesture at the US Open quickly turned sour. After beating ninth seed Karen Khachanov, Polish tennis player Kamil Majchrzak tried to hand his cap to a young boy in the crowd. But before the boy could grab it, a man standing nearby snatched the cap and hid it in his partner’s bag.

The moment was caught on camera and spread online within hours. Fans were furious, calling the act “selfish” and “disgusting.” Some even urged the US Open to take action against the man.

At the US Open, Polish tennis player Kamil Majchrzak is seeking help on Instagram to find a young boy after a grown man snatched the hat he was trying to give him.

Internet users soon identified him as Piotr Szczerek, the CEO of a Polish paving company called Drogbruk. Facing heavy backlash, Szczerek turned off comments on his social media accounts.

Majchrzak, who didn’t realize what had happened at first, later wrote on Instagram: “Please help me find the boy. I want to give him another cap and make things right.” Within an hour, the child was found and given a replacement cap. Still, the incident sparked wider debate about sportsmanship and how fans should behave.

Who is Piotr Szczerek?

The man in the viral video, Piotr Szczerek, is a Polish businessman and sports enthusiast. He is the CEO of Drogbruk, a paving company he started with his wife in 1999. The company is based in Błaszki and is now one of the leaders in Poland’s paving industry.

In an interview with Tennis Magazyn, Szczerek spoke about his journey, saying he was inspired during his studies at Poznań University of Technology: “The paving industry was growing fast, so my wife and I decided to start our own company in our hometown.”

Over the years, Drogbruk has supported many sports projects, from local basketball games to international tournaments like the Davis Cup. The company also runs the DROGBRUK TEAM program to support young Polish athletes and regularly takes part in charity events.

Szczerek is also passionate about sports himself. He joked in the same interview: “Tennis was difficult at first. I got a good beating from my wife,” explaining that he now plays in the second division of the Kalisz Tennis Association after starting in the sixth. He also spoke about his passion for endurance sports: “I finished the Warsaw Marathon in 3 hours 46 minutes. Now I’m thinking about completing an Ironman. I’m always setting new goals, but this would probably be the pinnacle of my passion.”

Thanks God, Internet community never fails,” added another.
