The England Under-21 goalkeeper turned down a number of offers from League One to sign for the Whites, having recently signed a two-year contract extension at Stamford Bridge.

Sharman-Lowe helped Doncaster Rovers to the League Two title last season and is setting his sights high once again now that his next move has been confirmed.

“I’m very excited to be here. It's another great challenge for me,” Sharman-Lowe said. “Coming to a club as big as Bolton – with its past in the Premier League as well and aspirations to be back there – I think I can really kick on and it's another great opportunity for me.

“It’s a beautiful stadium and I'm sure there will be a lot of fans here. I’m very excited to get going and I'm really looking forward to the season.

“Hopefully we can get promoted this year. It's obviously been the aim for the past few years and there's a real ambition in the club to get it done this year.”

The 22-year-old is currently away with England’s Under-21s at the European Championships and is expected to link-up with the Wanderers squad for their warm weather training camp in Marbella at the latest.

Sharman-Lowe becomes Wanderers’ fifth summer signing, following the arrivals of Sam Dalby, Xavier Simons, Charlie Warren and Richard Taylor.

Last season the Leicester-born keeper was an ever-present in the league for Rovers, making appearances and keeping 15 clean sheets, also helping them reach the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Steven Schumacher had consulted new keeper coach Owain Fon Williams on the best young keepers who could be available to the club this summer and he is backing Sharman-Lowe to continue the progress he made in South Yorkshire.

“We are really pleased to bring Teddy to the club,” he said. “He is a young goalkeeper with plenty of ability and a fantastic season of EFL football behind him where he played a major part in a promotion-winning team.

“His performances for Doncaster were outstanding and he possesses the physical presence and all-round goalkeeping attributes we were looking for. Teddy has shown he can handle the demands of regular first-team football.”
