Martin warns players about attitude

Rangers head coach Russell Martin:

"I think it showed that we need to strengthen a little bit in certain places as well, so the good ones that came on and made a difference are really good and then there's some ones that really pushed in the start in the team that did really well.

"We just need a bit more depth and a bit more help in a few areas I think which will come and we're working really hard to get but I was pleased with a lot.

"I said to the guys I didn't like the warm-up.

"There's a bit of disappointment in a few people. Maybe not in the team and all that stuff but if you're disappointed, and especially playing for this football club, you have to show it in being more aggressive, more intense, not being downbeat and sort of just being out there and letting the game pass you by a little bit.

"So they know that now and that can't happen, it can't be a problem for us.

"Whenever you step on the pitch for this club and this team you have to be all in. So that was a good lesson for a couple and the rest I'm really pleased with and we're better than we were before the game for sure."

Edwards focusing on positives

Middlesbrough head coach Rob Edwards:

"Other than the warm-up, no injuries which was good.

"A good positive performance, I thought we built on some of the work we've been doing over the past three weeks.

"I saw a really good cohesive team that was aggressive in the right moments and carried a real threat.

"I loved the look of us, especially in that first half, but maybe as we start to dip as we look to give players more minutes they bring on decent players with some pressure on as well because there's an expectation.

"I then saw a different side to us and I was a bit disappointed with the second goal as I felt there were four mistakes in the build-up."

Still work to do in Martin's Rangers rebuild

Sky Sports' Alison Conroy at Ibrox:

This game was a chance for some Rangers players to stake their claim for Wednesday's huge game against Panathinaikos, but it was unconvincing.

Russell Martin knows he has to trim his squad and some did little to prove they deserve an opportunity under the new head coach.

Jefte, Connor Barron, Nedim Bajrami and Oscar Cortes were among the changes from midweek, but three of the four taken off after an hour as they trailed 2-0.

Zander Hutton, Bailey Rice and Josh Gentles were also drafted in but, instead of making their mark, they showed the work Martin still has to do in rebuilding his squad.

He looked to his bench to those who will likely start in Athens and that was when they managed to fight their way back.

Danilo with the first goal with 19-year-old Findlay Curtis again underlining how important he could be this season.

There was no sign of Hamza Igamane in the squad and new signing Thelo Aasgaard was still missing with a knee injury.
