KL Rahul needed 28 runs on Wednesday to complete 1000 Test runs in England as an opener, and he achieved the objective during the 15th over of India's first innings.

KL Rahul is in red-hot form these days, and on Wednesday (July 23), during Day 1 of the fourth India-England Test in Manchester, he entered his name in the history books by becoming the second Indian opener to score 1000 Test runs in England.

Sunil Gavaskar was the first Indian opener to score 1000 Test runs in England. During his 16-year-long Test career, Gavaskar played 16 Tests in England and amassed a total of 1152 runs.

KL Rahul needed 28 runs on Wednesday to complete 1000 Test runs in England as an opener, and he achieved the objective by taking a single on the first ball of the 15th over of India’s first innings bowled by Chris Woakes.

Rahul played his first Test in England at Edgbaston from August 1 to 4 in 2018, and in that he batted at No. 3 in both innings but was only able to score 4 and 13 runs.

However, in the next 12 fixtures in England, he has always opened the innings.

During his 14-year-long Test career for India, Kohli played 15 Tests in England against England and amassed a total of 976 runs. He played one Test each against New Zealand and Australia as well in England and registered scores of 44, 13, 14, and 49 runs.

Rahul’s performance in the series so far

Rahul has impressed with his batting performances in the ongoing India-England Test series. He scored 42 runs in the first innings of the series opener played at Headingley in Leeds from June 20 to 24 and amassed a total of 137 runs in the second. But despite his super show with the bat, India suffered a heartbreaking defeat by 5 wickets.

In the first innings of the second Test played at Edgbaston from July 2 to 6, Rahul got out for just two runs, but in the second innings, he hammered 55 runs.

In the third Test played at Lord’s, Rahul scored 100 runs in the first innings and 39 in the second. He is the second Indian batter after Dilip Vengsarkar to score multiple Test centuries at Lord’s.
