Man Utd news LIVE: Erik ten Hag sack verdict given as Jose Mourinho plots to replace him

Manchester United suffered a major blow in their hopes of qualifying for Europe as they were thrashed 4-0 at Crystal Palace on Monday.

United, without Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and several other first-team players through injury, were second best from the off and went behind courtesy of a fine strike from Michael Olise.

Jean Phillipe-Mateta doubled Palace's lead just before the break before Tyrick Mitchell scored the third and Olise netted his second midway through the second period to complete the scoring.

Defeat for United is their 13th in the Premier League this season - the club's worst ever return. It leaves them eighth, level on points with seventh-place Chelsea and two points behind Newcastle in sixth.

Pressure is intensifying on Erik ten Hag after another humiliating away defeat, with the Dutchman highlighting their lack of centre-back options available as a factor behind the loss.
