Sam Allardyce says £70m Man Utd player keeps making the same mistake over and over

Manchester United put in their best performance of the season at the weekend as they beat Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils were electric in the opening portions of this game, but, in true recent Manchester United fashion, they nearly messed everything up in the second half.

Indeed, Casemiro was sent off just before half-time, and that made the second 45 minutes much more cagey than they needed to be.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Sam Allardyce has been discussing Casemiro’s red card, and he says he’d have substituted the Brazilian as soon as he picked up his first booking, claiming that he continuously makes the same mistakes with his discipline.

Sam Allardyce says Casemiro keeps making the same mistakes

Allardyce spoke about Casemiro after his sending off at the weekend.

The former England manager says that Casemiro just isn’t learning from his age, despite his mistakes.

In fact, Allardyce said that Casemiro is a detriment to his team at this point.

“No, I’d have taken him off straight away,” Allardyce said.

“Because I’ve seen how many times he’s been sent off.

“I mean, a man of his experience and his age who can’t control himself is, it’s what I call, he’s just an old player. He’s not an experienced player because he’s still doing the same things. He’s still doing the same things all his career that he should have cut out years ago.

“And particularly now he’s not as quick as he used to be. And he should be using his experience to make sure that doesn’t happen. But he’s not, he’s just doing the same old things he’s always done, diving in, jumping in.”

“And obviously, because he’s slowing down, he’s getting booked and sent off more. I would have thought his rate is probably one of the highest booked players Man United have. And as talented as he is, and he is on the ball, it’s a detriment to your team.”

Casemiro’s discipline record analysed

Allardyce suggests that Casemiro keeps getting sent off and this is a recurring problem throughout his career.

However, the numbers on this don’t quite add up.

Yes, as a defensive midfielder, Casemiro can sometimes go over the edge, but, he doesn’t have the worst record ever when it comes to getting red cards.

It’s clear that Casemiro loves a booking, but he’s only been sent off seven times in his career in 633 matches, that’s one red card every 90 games – around one every two seasons.

Unfortunately, this issue is becoming more and more prominent as he gets older as four of those seven red cards have been for Manchester United, so Allardyce does perhaps have a point here.
