It's decision day for 5-star CB Chauncey Kennon

It's decision day for one of Florida State's top targets regardless of position in the 2026 recruiting class.

At around 5:00 PM eastern today, five-star cornerback Chauncey Kennon will announce his commitment to one of six finalists: Florida State, Florida, Miami, LSU, Georgia or Oregon.

The team trending for his services, according to the 247Sports Crystal Ball, is FSU. The Seminoles were the first school to offer Kennon among his current finalists, extending him a scholarship in May of 2024.

Since then, cornerbacks coach Patrick Surtain Sr. and head coach Mike Norvell have been in an all-out pursuit for the Sarasota (Fla.) Booker talent. Kennon, who stands at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds, is an elite prospect, ranking No. 27 overall and as the No. 2 cornerback in the 2026 class per 247Sports.

Kennon played on both sides of the football for Booker this past season. Despite missing some action in the middle of the season due to an appendix injury, Kennon finished his junior campaign with 33 tackles, 16 PBUs, an interceptions and a forced fumble on defense to go along with 10 catches for 317 yards and 6 TDs on offense in 12 games, per MaxPreps.

247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins compares Kennon to Arizona Cardinals cornerback Trayvon Mullen:

"Long-levered outside corner that could fit into a variety of different schemes and systems with his size, eyes and ball skills. Needs some technical polish, but athletic markers (4.5 in the 40-yard dash, 6-foot-2 in the high jump) and offensive production signal no shortage of developmental upside, especially with a frame that's believed to be stretching just over 6-foot-1. Has manned-up primarily in a Cover 2 look on Friday nights and showcased the ability to stick his hip on larger wide receivers and turn/run with them. Will get physical as routes progress and does a favorable job of anticipating breaks. Might have picked off just one pass as a junior, but prevented plenty of scores and had a higher success rate in 50-50 situations when he was challenged. Serviceable as an open-field tackler, but a semester or two in a developmental lifting group could go a long way when it comes to providing run support. Must keep progressing and working on all the little things that come with playing one of the game's most difficult positions, but should be viewed as a risk-taking defender with all-conference potential that can shade top weapons and help shutdown potent passing attacks. Traits likely to draw looks from NFL talent evaluators one day."
