Wolves now turning attention to £25m goalscorer as Newcastle United chase Jorgen Strand Larsen

TBR Football understands that Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in signing Genk striker Tolo Arokodare as Newcastle United chase Jorgen Strand Larsen.

The transfer deadline is now just days away, and Newcastle United’s search for a new striker continues.

Alexander Isak wants to leave Newcastle for Liverpool, but there has been little progress on a potential deal.

Newcastle are still looking for attacking additions, and Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Jorgen Strand Larsen is a key Magpies target.

Wolverhampton Wanderers eye Tolu Arokodare

Wolves have turned their attention to Genk star Tolu Arokodare as they look at options to replace Strand Larsen, who has told the club he wants to join Newcastle United, TBR Football understands.

Newcastle have now seen two bids for Larsen turned down, and the Magpies are going to have to bid more to land the Norwegian.

TBR Football revealed earlier this week that Wolves wanted close to £70million for Strand Larsen, but the player has made it clear to the club that he wants to move to the North East.

Wolves are not happy with Strand Larsen’s stance, having just paid £25million to sign him permanently from Celta Viga earlier this summer, but they do understand his ambition to play for a Champions League club.

Newcastle sources expect a third bid to arrive, which will be in excess of £60million.

With this in mind, Wolves are looking at other options.

Wolves have already held talks with Getafe over Christantus Uche, but now they have also made moves over Arokodare.

Arokodare won the Ebony Shoe last season, the award presented to the best African player in Belgium.

The Nigerian was on Manchester United’s radar this summer, as well as Italian giants AC Milan and Napoli.

We are told the 24-year-old is keen to move to the Premier League, and that a deal worth close to £25million will be enough to persuade Genk to sell.

“Strand Larsen wants to join Newcastle, he has made that clear – he knows this is a great chance and I am told he is now doing everything in his power to seal the move,” said TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.

“Suddenly, this Strand Larsen deal could be the domino that sets everything off in terms of Alexander Isak.

“Wolves, for their part, like Arokodare. He was linked with United and thought he had half a chance of moving to Old Trafford, but he is ready to move to England,” he added.

Tolu Arokodare profiled amid Wolves interest

Arokodare emerged in his native Nigeria before heading to Latvian side Valmiera in 2019.

A giant striker at 6ft 6in tall, Arokodare racked up 22 goals in 34 games before loan spells with Koln and Amiens.

Arokodare failed to score in 11 games for Koln, but hit 21 goals in 63 outings during his 18-month stay with Amiens.

Genk snapped up Arokodare in 2023 and saw him score 23 times in all competitions last season.

The 24-year-old has picked up three caps for Nigeria on the international stage, scoring one goal.
