No Alexander Isak, no problem for Liverpool. The Premier League champions have pivoted from attempting to sign Newcastle's talisman to stealing a march on their top target, Hugo Ekitike.

After Newcastle had a £70million bid rejected by Eintracht Frankfurt, Liverpool have swooped in and agreed personal terms with the French striker, 23. They still need to strike a deal with Frankfurt, who are dialogue with the Reds and value Ekitike at a cool £85m.

Speaking of expensive strikers, Arsenal are still in negotiations with Sporting Lisbon over Viktor Gyokeres. The Gunners fly out for their pre-season tour of Asia on Saturday and want the 27-year-old Swede, who's been fined by Sporting for failing to report for training in Portugal, as soon as possible.

At Manchester United, their focus is firmly on Bryan Mbeumo and they finally made a third bid for the Brentford winger on Thursday. Ruben Amorim's side have offered a guaranteed £65m but Newcastle's interest in Brentford's Yoane Wissa could muddy the waters.
