Paris Saint-Germain confirmed on Friday that their coach, Luis Enrique Martínez, will require surgery after suffering a clavicle fracture in a cycling accident. The French club announced the news through its social media accounts and expressed its support for the Spanish manager in this difficult moment.

“Paris Saint-Germain wishes to express its full support to Luis Enrique and wishes him a speedy recovery. The club will provide more information shortly,” read the statement from the club, current champions of the Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup.

Luis Enrique’s passion for cycling has been widely known since his retirement as a player in 2004. The former Sporting Gijón, Real Madrid, and Barcelona footballer has taken part in several international mountain bike races and has continued practicing the sport as one of his great hobbies away from the pitch.

The accident will require him to undergo surgery in the coming days, although the club did not specify how long he will be away from the sidelines. What is certain is that PSG faces demanding weeks ahead: on Sunday the 14th they will play in Ligue 1 against Lens, and on Wednesday the 17th they will kick off their Champions League campaign against Atalanta.

The news comes at a crucial sporting moment for Paris Saint-Germain, who are looking to consolidate a project full of international stars. Among them is Ousmane Dembélé, whose progress has been praised even by teammates like Jules Koundé, as well as several Ballon d’Or finalists within the squad, including Dembélé himself.

In recent statements, Koundé affirmed that both his Barcelona teammate Lamine Yamal and Dembélé deserve the award: “They’ve had two extraordinary seasons, with trophies. There are strong arguments for both.” His words reflect the great form of several players currently working under Luis Enrique, who will now have to maintain their level in a packed schedule of challenges.

The Spanish coach’s accident adds short-term uncertainty but does not change PSG’s ambitions, as the club continues to aim for the highest achievements in all competitions. Meanwhile, Luis Enrique’s recovery will be closely followed both in Paris and in Spain, where he remains one of the most influential figures in modern football.
