Will Liverpool vs Man Utd be postponed? Met office issue UK snow warning ahead of clash

Liverpool's Premier League clash with Manchester United could be affected by snow after the Met Office issued an amber weather warning ahead of the clash.

Liverpool are due to host United at Anfield on Sunday, but the Met Office have warned that Merseyside will be affected by "snow and freezing rain [that] will likely lead to disruption to transport and some other services".

In a statement, they warned: "Snow will become persistent and locally heavy as it pushes south to north across the warning area. As well as snow, a period of freezing rain is also likely bringing some hazardous travel conditions, before milder air follows across all areas by Sunday morning.

"Whilst there is some uncertainty in details, 3-7 cm of snow is likely for much of the warning area, with locally 15-30 cm for the higher ground of Wales and the southern Pennines. Freezing rain could lead to ice accretion in places, especially parts of Wales, before the milder air leads to a rapid thaw of snow and ice in the south of the warning area through Sunday."

It remains to be seen if the weather will affect the game, but Liverpool were affected by Storm Darragh last month as their Merseyside derby clash with Everton was postponed due to the torrential rain and extreme wind.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot is looking forward to the fixture, having seen his side beat United 3-0 at Old Trafford. Since that game, Ruben Amorim has replaced Erik ten Hag as United boss and Slot believes the Red Devils are "much better" than the league table shows.

"For me, I said it before the first fixture and I can say it one more time, they have much better players, in my opinion, than maybe the league table shows at the moment," Slot said. "It's maybe going to take a while for Ruben Amorim to bring this out of the players, I don't know, but they will definitely go up and they are much, much, much better than the league shows at the moment."

United currently sit 14th in the league and Amorim is hopeful his team can produce a much improved performance against Liverpool, having lost 2-0 to Newcastle in their last outing on December 30.

"We had more time to train, two days in a row, to train with the team," Amorim said. "I think that can help us, given the environment. Of course, it's a difficult moment because we are losing too many matches.

"We are going to face the best team this year but, like I said, we are training. We feel more the team, we prepare more the team and we want to improve the performance compared to the last game."
