Kris Boyd names three Steven Gerrard guarantees he brings to Rangers

Kris Boyd has named the three guarantees Steven Gerrard brings to Rangers.

The former Ibrox striker insists his old club should be looking to get his signature on paper if a deal is there to be done.

It would mean a sensational return to Govan for a second stint and Boyd believes it is the exact type of lifted required in Govan.

He reckons that injection he brought first time around and that he has been there and done it at Ibrox can only be a positive with things at the Light Blues 'flat for a period of time'

The new American owners are ramping up the Russell Martin successor search with Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe meeting in London while Gerrard is also set to jet in to meet them - but a return hinges on a key factor, as exclusively revealed by Record Sport .

Speaking to Sky Sports, Boyd said: "If there is a deal to be done with Steven Gerrard, then I think it should get done.

"You look at what he brought to Rangers the last time, it needs that sort of lift and injection again. It has been flat now for a period of time.

"Steven will no doubt bring a presence with him, lift the standards and I think first and foremost he knows what is required to be a success at Rangers Football Club.

"It is not as if he is going to come into something that is alien to him. He's been there, he's had the pressures of a city in Liverpool on his shoulders for a number of years, he came to Glasgow and it took him time, but he eventually got there.

"You just felt if the Rangers board at that time had backed him, then he would have probably have went on to win more. They didn't and he decided to leave.

"I think that is why he is saying he has got a lot of unfinished business still in football and there is no doubt Rangers Football Club will be one of those."

Russell Martin was axed on Sunday night following the Light Blues draw away to newly promoted Falkirk.

It meant Rangers headed into the international break with just one win from seven Premiership outings.

The result proved the final straw for the Ibrox hierarchy as they called time on the former Southampton gaffer.

The hunt for the next manager is well underway with Dundee United next on the agenda after the international break.
