Arch Manning, the first-year starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns, showed his true character immediately after his "classless" touchdown celebration went viral on social media on Saturday night.

Texas topped Sam Houston State, 55-0, on Saturday evening. The Longhorns, ranked No. 8 in the country, improved to 3-1 on the year with the win. Texas' lone loss came on the road against now-No. 1 Ohio State. Arch Manning, the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning, had his biggest game to date, throwing for 309 yards and three touchdowns, while adding two rushing touchdowns.

Arch Manning taunted a Sam Houston State defensive player immediately following one of his rushing touchdowns, though, and took a lot of heat on social media for his celebration.

Manning, a five-star recruit out of New Orleans, was accused of "classless" and "disrespectful" behavior with the touchdown celebration. Even his own mother called him out for the play.

"My mom was pretty mad about that," Arch Manning told reporters at his postgame press conference on Saturday night.

College football fans thought that Manning was being intentionally disrespectful toward an inferior opponent.

"Flexing on Sam Houston State is crazy 😭," one fan wrote.

"Arch flexing on winless team they paid 1 million dollars just to post a dub ! 😂 Peak male performance," one fan added.

"Not very Manning-like. Good thing he got it out of his system before he has to play an SEC team," another fan wrote.

Arch Manning showed his true character speaking postgame

Arch Manning immediately admitted that he went too far with his touchdown celebration on Saturday night. He said that it was uncalled for and that he felt bad about it. Manning even admitted that his mom was disappointed.

"Probably a little much there, my mom was pretty mad about that...I think it was some built up frustration from the past few weeks," he said.

It takes a big man to apologize. While Manning was rightfully criticized for his touchdown celebration, he should get credit for his apology, too. Manning has faced an unprecedented level of hype and attention since he was in high school.

While it wouldn't be surprising to see Manning getting emotional from time to time, it's clear that he has a good head on his shoulders. It was cool to see that Manning could own up to his behavior following the game.

Manning should get credit for his postgame admission. Peyton and Eli Manning always handled themselves with serious class and poise and it looks like Arch Manning is getting there, too.
