Bakayoko has signed a long-term contract with Leipzig and follows the arrivals of Yan Dimonande, Max Finkgräfe and Andrija Maksimović as new head coach Ole Werner reshapes the squad in his image.

Capped 18 times by Belgium, Bakayoko has been with PSV since 2019 and claimed back-to-back league titles in the past two seasons. During his time at PSV, the 22-year-old has scored 33 times in 131 appearances and was a much coveted commodity in this summer's transfer market.

"Leipzig had Johan Bakayoko on their radar for over two years and repeatedly endeavoured to sign him - so we are all the happier that he has now decided in favour of Leipzig despite strong competition," said Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schäfer.

"The latest signings are a taster of the new style of play that we want to develop in the coming weeks of preparation: Intensive, energetic, fast paced with young, hungry lads with potential to grow."

A versatile forward, Bakayoko can operate across the entire forward line but has been best deployed at PSV from the right-wing. He will now join up with his new teammates for pre-season training and could make his debut in the friendly against Meuselwitz on 19 July.

"I'm really looking forward to the new challenge at RB Leipzig. The club has made a name for itself internationally and stands for the kind of ambitious, attacking football that I love" Bakyoko told the Leipzig website.

"I've been really impressed by the way RB Leipzig endeavoured to win me over in recent years and gave me the feeling that they are fully committed to me. That, and the current discussions with all those responsible, were the deciding factors for me to move to Leipzig and the Bundesliga."
