Reinventing women's football in my country

Matchdays in electric stadiums. Rest days in an epic countryside.

It’s a dreamy proposition.

But for travelling football fans attending the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025, in Switzerland, it doesn’t have to be just for the imagination. Or so believes the host nation's captain and Arsenal stalwart Lia Wälti.

Last year, after facing questions from her club fans about where to go and what to do while in Switzerland, Wälti hatched an idea.

"Every Arsenal fan I've seen after games would say, ‘Can you give us some advice for the Euros in Switzerland? Where can we stay? What can we do? What are the best hikes?'" The football star told ESPN in an interview.

“I just thought: why not try to push the cities, the locations, the host cities to give information to the fans?"

It was then that the “Lia’s Switzerland” Instagram account was born. And, ever since, it has become a one-stop shop for all things Swiss.

“Let me take you to Oeschinensee - a turquoise alpine gem high above Kandersteg”, she writes in a caption under a video showing her travelling to an idyllic natural scene of a vibrant blue lake under the watch of a majestic mountain. She goes on to explain how to get there and what to do once you arrive at the lake, in addition to tips on how to stay hydrated and safe from the sun.

All the videos and posts on the account connect its nearly 20,000 followers with some of the best the host country has to offer, showing off what awaits those away from the pitch.
