Arsenal are back in Champions League action as the host a familiar foe in Olympiacos.

It was a positive start to the league phase of the competition for the Gunners, who were quick off the mark with a 2-0 win away to Athletic Club.

They remain unbeaten since, and could make it five games without a loss should they down the 48-time champions of Greece.

Olympiacos won a domestic double last season, clinching both the Greek Super League and the Greek Cup, but did not impress on the continent, crashing out of the Europa League in the round of 16.

A goalless draw with Cypriot side Pafos marked a similarly underwhelming start to this year’s European endeavours.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Arsenal vs Olympiacos is scheduled for an 8pm BST kick-off today, Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

The match will take place at the Emirates Stadium in north London.

Relative to some of his Premier League rivals, Mikel Arteta has a fairly short list of injury worries. Summer signings Noni Madueke and Piero Hincapie are both out, as are the longer-term absentees Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.

Bukayo Saka started his second consecutive match as Arsenal beat Newcastle at the weekend. He was withdrawn with 20 minutes left to play, though, suggesting Arteta expects him to play a role against Olympiacos.

There will be a decision to make in defence, though, as Cristhian Mosquera has laid claim to a starting berth with some impressive performances this season. He made way for William Saliba at half-time at St James Park, though, and it remains to be seen who will get the nod on return to N5.

Martin Odegaard was involved briefly on Tyneside as he returns from a shoulder injury. He should be approaching full match fitness, but Arteta may decide not to risk him against lesser opposition.

Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard may also be handed a chance to impress.

Olympiacos will be without Roman Yaremchuk and Lorenzo Scipioni for the tie.

Former Wolves winger Daniel Podence has two goal contributions from three league appearances so far this season, and should line up on the left wing against familiar opposition.

Arsenal vs Olympiacos prediction

Olympiacos are an ever-present side in European competition, but there is little to suggest they will cause Arsenal many headaches at the Emirates.

Hosting the minnows Pafos last time out - who were down to ten men from the 26th minute - Olympiacos mustered just three shots on target and squandered two ‘big chances’.

To create so little against a Champions League debutant despite having a spare man, and fail to finish what few chances did come would not fill one with confidence.

Playing away at the Emirates will surely prove too tall an ask.
