AFL Team Selection: Round Four

Adelaide has made two changes to its side ahead of the Round Four match against Gold Coast on Saturday, with Lachlan Murphy and Luke Nankervis included in the line-up.

The Club has named Sam Berry, Hugh Bond and Toby Murray, who signed a two-year contract extension this week, as its emergencies.

“Murph completed a strong pre-season and has been playing at a really high level,” Adelaide Head of Football Adam Kelly said.

“He is one of a number of players with AFL experience that has been performing as well as they ever have in their careers, while the opportunity hasn’t been there for them at AFL level in the opening three rounds.

“Luke Nankervis and Sam Berry come into the squad of 24 that will travel to the Gold Coast.

“Both have been going really well, across the pre-season trials and in our first game of SANFL last weekend. The 23 that will play will be finalised once we are up in Queensland and named an hour prior to commencement of the game.”

Midfielder Matt Crouch (managed) will not take to the field, while forward Josh Rachele will also miss the game, after injuring his ribs in last weekend’s 36-point win against North Melbourne.

“Matty pulled up sore from the clash against North Melbourne, and given the short turnaround between games along with interstate travel, the decision was made to manage Matt and get him ready for Geelong in Gather Round,” Kelly said.

“That has presented an opportunity for Sid to come into the starting 22.

“Sid has now been able to get three games under his belt as our sub and we have been pleased with his ability to impact in that role.

“He now has the opportunity to experience starting in the 22 for the first time, something that he is really looking forward to.”

Adelaide will announce its substitute one hour before the game.

The Crows take on Gold Coast at People First Stadium on Saturday at 12.50pm (ACDT).
