Slovenia legend Zlatko Zahovic comments on Benjamin Sesko to Man Utd, national press react to transfer

Benjamin Sesko is now looking forward to making an impact at Manchester United after sealing his move.

RB Leipzig had a warning for the rest of the Premier League after Benjamin Sesko sealed his transfer to Manchester United, ‘buckle up’.

Sesko is an explosive striker with pace, aerial ability and a thunderous shot, who idolises Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The forward has signed a five-year deal at Manchester United, where he will wear the number 30 shirt next season.

Slovenia legend backs Benjamin Sesko move

Benjamin Sesko hails from Slovenia, home of NBA superstar Luka Doncic. The striker’s move to Manchester United gives him a chance to overtake the basketball star in status and popularity.

Sesko already has 41 international caps for Slovenia and 16 goals. In both departments he is chasing national legend Zlatko Zahovic.

One of the stars of Euro 2000, Slovenia’s first tournament appearance since the break up of Yugoslavia, Zahovic boasts 84 caps and 36 goals for his country.

And the former Porto and Benfica playmaker has given his backing to Benjamin Sesko’s move to Old Trafford.

Speaking to Slovenian outlet Vecer, Zahovic says: “A top transfer, the best possible decision.”

The move has become a national talking point, with Slovenian cycling star Tadej Pogacar, a Tour de France winner weighing in.

He told Siol: “All credit to Benjamin for this transfer. He went to a top team, and even though I’m not exactly a Manchester United fan, I want him to score as many goals as possible.”

Slovenian media respond to Benjamin Sesko move

Benjamin Sesko became the most expensive Slovenian footballer of all time when his £66 million transfer to Manchester United was confirmed.

The Posavski newspaper notes that Sesko’s first club where he played under-15 football in Slovenia, NK Krsko, will receive around 350,000 euros from the overall fee.

The Reporter magazine lauds the transfer, describing Benjamin Sesko as ‘a symbol of hope and pride for Slovenian football’.

24ur.com report excitedly: “Slovenian wonder boy Benjamin Šeško will introduce himself to the world as a Manchester United footballer.”

They add: “He remains a modest, simple and hard-working boy who often returns to his hometown, and his compatriots are bursting with pride.”

Slovenian newspaper Delo write, “Benjamin Sesko’s transfer to the Red Devils brings new hope”, for a club still “struggling to find an identity since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.”

It is clear there is a lot of interest, pride and hope in Sesko’s homeland in how he fares at Manchester United, with new head coach Ruben Amorim attempting to turn the club’s fortunes around.
