Naomi Osaka is enjoying a welcome return to form at the Canadian Open.

The Japanese player has struggled throughout the season and she had lost her last six WTA Tour-level three-set matches before arriving in Montreal.

That changed when she rallied from a set and a break down to claim a 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 victory against Liudmila Samsonova in the second round of the Canadian Open.

Since then Osaka has been flying and she is now into just her second semi-final of the season, and two wins away from her first title since 2021.

Naomi Osaka is delighted to be seeded for the US Open

Since Naomi Osaka‘s three-set victory against Samsonova in Montreal, she has not dropped a set.

In fact, the 27-year-old has lost more than two games in a set just once, and she has defeated the likes of former French Open champion and Olympic bronze medallist Elina Svitolina.

Osaka’s run to the semi-finals in Montreal means she will now re-enter the top 30 for the first time since January 2022.

Furthermore, she is now likely to be seeded for the US Open, something she has not experienced at a Grand Slam since the 2022 Australian Open.

Reacting to the news, Osaka wrote on Instagram: “Your girl is gonna be seeded again at slams.

“US Open being the first one honestly makes sense and is kinda full circle haha. Montréal I love you, tonight was fun- see you again tomorrow!”

Naomi Osaka says what she thinks of Clara Tauson ahead of their Canadian Open semi-final

Osaka will face Denmark’s Clara Tauson for a spot in the Canadian Open final.

The tournament’s 16th seed is also playing great tennis and she clinched back-to-back wins against Iga Swiatek and Madison Keys to reach the last four in Montreal.

Tauson has yet to drop a set and this will be the first time she faces Osaka since January’s ASB Classic final, when injury forced the former world number one to retire from the match after winning the first set.

Looking ahead to her next match, Osaka said: “I think for me, I’m just having a lot of fun playing and I’m really glad to be here.

“She’s [Tauson] really tough. I played her in Auckland this year and I had to stop halfway because I was injured. So, I’m really excited that I’m healthy and I hope that it’s a good match for everyone that comes and watches.”
